Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins First Trophy in Over Two Years

19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging year, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former mentor Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from that period of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one various events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

The opponent defended 4 initial break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
